I have a child who has great difficulty learning math facts. Our math program, Singapore Math, uses number bonds to learn math facts. I have also seen the concept referred to a number families.
Whatever you call them, I think it's a logical way to learn math facts. The gist of it is that rather than learning addition facts in a vacuum, you learn addition and subtraction. So, instead of learning just
1+ 3 = 4
You learn
1 + 3 = 4
3 + 1 = 4
4 - 3 = 1
4 - 1 = 3
Likewise, you learn multiplication and division at the same time.
4 x 5 = 20
5 x 4 = 20
20/5 = 4
20/4 = 5
I think this is a much more intuitive way to learn math facts. So I was excited when I found these number bond/fact family flash cards. Check them out. My affiliate links below will take you straight to them.
